U BETTA WORK!

FALL 2018

This piece was one of the first complex digital illustrations I've ever created, and was born out of an interest in pop art. However, despite my interest in the visual style, I noticed how pop art pieces often portrayed very traditional subjects. Specifically, the people are always white, and men and women are depicted in traditional roles (e.g. women as a damsels in distress). I chose to defy both of those norms and lean on my experience in the LGBTQ community, depicting an expression well known to anyone familiar with LGBTQ culture, with a photo of RuPaul in drag serving as a photo reference.
